TrekFest 2013
Stardate - 06282013.2000
Have landed in Riverside, Iowa to participate in this annual celebration at the future birthplace of Capt. James T. Kirk. You can see more
information at their electronic billboard,
www.trekfest.com

Preliminary scans indicate mostly terran life forms, although on Vulcan was spotted in the crowd. Initiated contact by purchasing body coverings to
blend in.

Procured a missive listing the events for the weekend. Valuable information on how the terrans of this era celebrate major historical events!

But First, a quick visit to where it all will begin. THE Birthplace. Located in the sprawling 21st century metropolis of
Riverside, Iowa, just a few blocks away from the museum. My journey is documented in the photo essay below.

Approaching the coordinates of the future birthplace.
Located behind the small yellow wooden structure in the
center of town, I followed the local information billboards.
Making the journey to the imposing monument to future genius!
And a final look back to see the way we came.

Some of the primitive 21st
celebration. A midway of
celebration. A midway of
rides for the immature terrans.

For the Mature Terrans,
there is a band featuring such
space age instruments as a
cello! wait, is that Lt.Cmdr
Data playing in the band?
Such an amazing level of
technology! a train that runs without
rails, and a kiddy ride made out of
repurposed feed tanks and pool
noodles! who knew terrans of this
century was sooo advanced?

A quick trip to the Museum to pick up some artifacts. I located another tradition particular to this geographic region, the "Quilt". It is a handmade
covering that utilizes scraps of cloth, and in this instance, can be designed to commemorate a specific event.
You can see me materializing in the reflection. Also located in "parking lot", were a couple spacecraft.
Authentic Kirk Dirt! Mined from the very site he
will eventually be born at! What a find! While it
may LOOK like the ordinary black gold that is
Iowa dirt, this is soooo much better!

Oh, and picked up a nice little badge too!
One can also purchase the actual kirk sawdust that was made
when the wooden shatner was created.

All in all, it was a great day! Originally from Iowa, I enjoy going home when I can. Add to that
the bonus of being able to go to a small town parade, where it seems everyone has a good time!

While my comments are my attempt to be humorous, what I observed while there was
very heartening to me. I saw lots of parents with their kids enjoying the day. I saw lots
of healthy, well behaved children being very patient waiting in the rain.
I DIDN'T see folks wandering around mesmerized by their cell phone/iphones or
kids with gaming devices in their hands!
I hope to return someday! :)
